Bodrum, often referred to as the “St. Tropez of the Turkish Riviera” by Conde Nast, is a port city that exudes an air of glamour, reminiscent of its French counterpart. However, Bodrum has much more to offer beyond its elegant resorts and designer shopping outlets. Steeped in history with a strong influence from ancient Greece, the region boasts a landscape adorned with white-washed buildings. Archaeological and heritage sites abound, offering opportunities for exploration, and the diverse terrain includes pristine beaches, beautiful coves, and hiking trails.
But what truly sets Bodrum apart is the local hospitality, which I mentioned in my previous post, and the rich gastronomic experiences that are available. It’s much more than just a materialistic destination, as the aforementioned label might suggest. Bodrum offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a destination that caters to all types of travellers. Whether you’re interested in immersing yourself in ancient ruins, indulging in local cuisine, or simply relaxing on the picturesque beaches, Bodrum has something to offer to everyone who visits.
WHEN TO GO
Bodrum enjoys mild weather year round, however May to October are warmer months to visit with July and August being the hottest. May or September are sublime as you are able to benefit from the glorious weather allowing you to explore the peninsular in comfort whilst being able to take advantage of fewer crowds and lower prices
HOW TO GET THERE
Bodrum is served by it’s own international airport with most major cities flying direct during the peak season (April – October). Easyjet are now offering extended flights to the region during low season too.
WHERE TO STAY
There are so many wonderful coves in Bodrum with beautiful properties situated throughout. Here are my top recommendations:
Radisson Collection Hotel, Bodrum
Beautiful 5 star resort close to Bodrum town and top attractions. Doubles from £157 per room , per night
Stunning property located in a private cove and serving up laidback vibes and a plethora of dining options. The spa, gym and infinity pool makes an idyllic escape for couples and families. Doubles from £250 per room, per night
Located in the elegant area of Golturkubu, this one is for those looking for something special. However it is almost always fully booked so do check early to avoid disappointment. Doubles from £400 per room per night
Tip : to get the best rates, I advise you travel in the shoulder seasons and check on http://www.hotelscombined.com. This is a hotel comparator site showing which booking platforms are offering the best rates for your chosen property.
THINGS TO DO
Bodrum Castle

One of the landmark sites of Bodrum is the Castle of St Peter which is located in Bodrum town and contains a museum and historic information. The architecture is beautiful and well worth a visit to admire the interiors of this 14th century marvel.
Bodrum Windmills

A beautiful sights overlooking Bodrum are the windmills. Made of stone and lined with wooden planks these windmills are now derelict. They are situated on a beautiful hilltop location, nestled among the olive trees and are a great location for panoramic views on Bodrum especially at night.

Visit the hot springs at Pamukalle , which is a 90 minute trip from Bodrum. You will experience bathing in thermal pools set across a white landscape; a truly surreal experience. Viator are offering day trips as linked below.
